Stirring Up Love

Paul the apostle wrote in 2 Tim. 3:1-5 (NKJV), “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.”

Do you see this?  Could some of these descriptions even fit you?  Do you love yourself more then you love God?  Do you love money more than you love God?  Do you love pleasure more than you love God?  A lot of people who profess to be God’s people have done what the writer Hebrews tells us not to do in Hebrews 10:25 (NKJV), “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”  Why do people who profess to be God’s people forsake the assembling of themselves together?  Most of the time it’s because they love pleasures more than they love God.  This can be hobbies they love, sports, yard work and such.  It can be sleeping in or just taking it easy.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:12 (NKJV), “…..the love of many will grow cold.”  Has your love grown cold?

Perhaps this Christmas your love can come alive once again.  John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  We are told in John 1:14 (NKJV), “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”   The thought of God becoming man sends awe through my soul.  Since God loved us so much how could you and I allow our love for Him to grow cold?  Will you allow your love for God to live again?

Psalms 84:10
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
