There is a verse that came to my mind as I was praying about writing this.  It is 1 John 2:17 (NKJV), “And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”  This world that you and I live in is passing away, but you would think that the way many Christians love it that it is what we are living for.

John tells us in 1 John 2:15 (NKJV), “Do not love the world or the things in the world.  If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”  James said in James 4:4 (NKJV), “…Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?  Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

The thing about this world is it takes people away from God.  It takes Christians away from God.  There are a lot of things in this world that are not necessarily evil in and of themselves, but if they take you away from worshipping and serving God they become an abomination to God.  Anything that you pursue instead of worshipping or serving God in your church is a snare to you.  A snare is defined as something that leads you into a place or situation from which there is no escape.  Now I am not talking about a job or something of that nature, unless it’s an obsession.  I am talking about what you would rather do than worship God.  It can be a sport, television, traveling, or laziness.  It can be an “I don’t care attitude.”

Isaiah said it well when he said in Isaiah 59:2, “... your iniquities have separated you from your God..”

What is there in your life today that is separating you from your God?  Are you willing to deal with it?  Remember, it’s an abomination to God and it’s a snare to you.
